Cyprus

With everything you might never need to know about what it's like to live here! Hopefully including maps for cruisers and boaties (where the supermarkets, post offices and laundrettes are) and notes for tourists.

dragonflyLiving on a boat certainly gives us a different view point! We live in a beautiful tourist spot with stunning views- its just a shame that some people see fit to spoil the fun. For a few giggles please read the article on Driving in Cyprus.

Cyprus is the third largest island in the Meditteranean, situated at the eastern end and considered to be in the Middle-East- but a full member of the European Union with dual- currency and conversion to the Euro just beginning.

Pafos

Pafos was once the ancient capital city of the island, the first city to be ruled by a Christian and now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kato Pafos (downtown) is the oldest part and has many hidden tourist sites among the hotels and under them! In particular, the Alexander the Great and the Annabel hotel both have rock-cut tombs to be seen. Even 'Bar Street' (Agios Antoniou) has an old church which is used by the Coptic Christians for worship. (The Coptics were the first people to record the regular storms that Cyprus still gets today!)Butterfly

Other sites to be seen in the town and surrounding areas include the mosaics and castle in the Archaeological site by the harbour, the Byzantine fort and Roman harbour wall, the catacombs and quarry. In the 'Old Town' up the hill, there are many small shops and the old mosque and Turkish Baths.

Outside Pafos on the way to Limassol there is Petra tou Romiou (the legendary birthplace of the Goddess Aphrodite), the site of Palea Pafos (Ancient Pafos and the centre of the cult of Aphrodite) and the temple of Apollon Hylates near to Episkopi.

More to come.....
